Cuyamaca Tutoring Policies

Appointments

  • Cuyamaca Tutoring is free for all Cuyamaca students. 
  • Students can only schedule one appointment per subject at a time.
  • One-on-one sessions are 30-minutes. Group sessions are 1-hour with a limit of 5 students per appointment.
  • Students can have up to two appointments per day, but the second session cannot begin any sooner than half an hour after the first appointment has ended. 
  • The last 5 minutes of all appointments are for necessary paperwork and student reflection. 
  • Records of the appointments are shared with faculty at the end of the 4th, 8th, 12th, and 16th weeks of the semester, unless requested otherwise.

How to get the most out of your appointments

Come Prepared

  • Attempt your assignment before your appointment. This will allow you to know what areas your understand and the areas you would like to focus. 
  • Write down any questions you have or highlight the parts of the assignment  that don't make sense. 
  • Know what you would like help with for your appointment. Tutors can help at any stage of an assignment. 
  • Bring all materials that you may need for your appointment, this could be the assignment sheet, text, or notes. 

Get the best fit

  • Change- if you don’t like the first tutor you work with, for some subjects there are other tutors you can try. Different people have different learning styles and personalities.
  • Pacing- feel free to ask the tutor to slow down or speed up.
  • Ask- ask the tutor can explain something again or differently.
  • Speak up- if you realize you need to change the agenda because you see that some other point has become more important.

NetTutor 

NetTutor is a third-party service available for students when the Cuyamaca Tutoring Centers are closed. NetTutor appointments are 30-minutes.
