Profession:
Communications Consultant
Mike Uhrhammer joined Padre Dam Municipal Water District in 2001 as the agency’s public affairs manager to support the Board of Directors and management team, develop new communications strategies and manage media relations, water conservation, education and legislative affairs.
In 2006, Mike co-chaired San Diego’s first regional water conservation summit, bringing water and land use agencies and the building and landscaping industries together to develop the water efficient landscaping market. The recommendations from the event shaped the conservation policy and strategies of the San Diego County Water Authority and its member water agencies. Mike was promoted to Director of Communications in 2008 and assumed responsibility for customer service, billing and support, and development of a 15,000sf water efficient demonstration garden. In 2010, he was appointed by California’s Department of Water Resources to the public advisory committee for the 2013 Update to the California Water Plan.
Since becoming a communications consultant in 2011, Mike created the San Diego County Water Authority’s eGuide to a Water Efficient Lifestyle, a 140 page, step-by-step guide for designing and installing a water efficient garden, and taught courses, facilitated a water industry skills panel and managed a grant for Cuyamaca College’s Water and Wastewater Technology Program. He is currently creating a website for Don Jones’ California Waterworks initiative that will market career pathways into the water industry and facilitate collaboration between the 20 community college water technology programs in the state.
Mike is a graduate of Stanford University.
