Spring Garden and Butterfly Festival
History of Festival
The Spring Garden Festival began in 1993 as the Urban Forest Field Day, an outreach
activity for the Arboriculture students to demonstrate what they had learned during
the semester. This grew from one course and a few visitors to multiple horticulture
courses presenting demonstrations surrounding the Cuyamaca College Nursery. The addition
of local artisans, vendors and a broad range of plant and garden societies helped
make this a popular spring destination for families and homeowners.
Today the event encompasses nearly twenty acres of the Cuyamaca College campus and
numerous other college classes and programs now participate annually. The festival
features fun programs, hundreds of vendors and exhibitors, crafters and demonstrations
that will help you become a better gardener and learn how to conserve our precious
resources. The renowned Cuyamaca College Ornamental Horticulture department holds
its biggest plant sale of the year at the festival. Spring Garden Festival is one
of the most popular festivals in San Diego. Annual attendance now exceeds 7,000 community
visitors. We hope to see you there!
OH anticipates the return of the Spring Garden and Butterfly Festival in Spring 2022!
